Mikuni Sushi- The Art of Perfection

No one knows this better than the sushi chefs at Mikuni. With five Japanese restaurants and sushi bars throughout the Sacramento region, they are well-versed in the fine art of satisfying diners who clamor for this delicacy.

Says Mikuni co-owner and master chef Kotaro (Taro) Arai, “While many Japanese restaurants receive their fish once a week, we take delivery every day. This translates to 52 tons of fresh fish per month, complemented by 2.5 tons of rice per week. With numbers like these, our diners can be sure that Mikuni sushi is optimally fresh and flavorful.”

Of course, it takes a lot of diners to consume such quantities of food, and that usually means long waiting lines. But like standing-room-only at a hit Broadway play, a long line is a good sign.

Mimi Sheraton, renowned food critic for the New York Times recently wrote, “Never go to a sushi restaurant you can get into. If there’s no wait after 12:15 for lunch or 6:15 for dinner, be suspicious. The best places fill up early.”

Explains Taro, “We live in an on-demand world, with an attitude of ‘I want it and I want it now.’ When instant gratification is an option, people won’t stand in line for run-of-the-mill food. At Mikuni, we see waiting lines as a testimony to the quality of our food and the loyalty of our diners.”

Besides representing a growing culinary trend, sushi meets the needs of today’s diet- and health-conscious consumer. It is high in protein, low in calories and cholesterol, devoid of saturated fat, and rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which benefit the hearts of both healthy people and those with cardiovascular disease. In fact, the American Heart Association® recommends eating fish—particularly fatty fish—at least twice a week. Which is good news for Mikuni.

Mikuni has been voted the Sacramento region’s favorite Japanese restaurant and sushi bar for eight consecutive years in both Sacramento Magazine and Sacramento News & Review, and has been named “Best Restaurant” for the past two years in Sacramento News & Review. Restaurants are located in Fair Oaks, Roseville, midtown Sacramento, Arden Fair, and Elk Grove.
