Mikuni Teams with Renowned International Architect for Design of Its New Las Vegas Restaurant

Mikuni has teamed with Graham Downes Architecture, Inc., an international agency noted for creating innovative solutions for retail, hospitality, entertainment, and urban mixed-use projects. The firm is comprised of 40 talented designers and support personnel, and their primary objective extends far beyond mere design: to exceed expectations of the physical environment and offers experiences that enhance and enrich the quality of life.

Company founder and CEO Graham Downes is best known for choosing simplicity over extravagance – a style that will impart an interesting balance to the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas region. His work has been described as “contemporary and conceptual, upfront and unpretentious, with a sly sense of humor and use of irony.” Since setting up his firm in 1994, Downes has designed scores of hospitality properties, including San Diego-area restaurants Chive, Laurel, JRDN, and Nine-Ten.

Says Derrick Fong, chief executive officer of Mikuni, “We are delighted to be working with such an extraordinarily talented and creative agency. Downes’ uncluttered spaces are both practical and aesthetically pleasing, and they are the perfect complement to the Mikuni culture.”

Since 1987, the award-winning Mikuni restaurants have blended traditional Japanese cuisine with American innovation. Mikuni employs a staff of more than 500, and currently operates five upscale and casual restaurants throughout the Sacramento region. The Northstar-at-Tahoe location in Truckee, California is scheduled to open this fall. Mikuni’s extensive menu features more than 300 original sushi creations, served in eclectic and energetic settings.
